If you use essential oils, gemstones can also be a wonderful addition for you. I regularly get the question about how to use gemstones and how to combine them with essential oils. In this blog I would like to give you more information and great tips on how to do this.
What are Gemstones?
A gemstone differs from ordinary stones by, among other things, its color, shine, durability (hardness and resistance) and the rarity that you encounter it in nature.
Gemstones are minerals , a single or composite substance that occurs in nature and is formed by geological processes. The most beautiful gemstones are formed deep in the earth, where magma solidifies and crystals are formed. Fun fact is that the presence of chemicals and metals in the crystals provide the color. For example, iron provides the purple color in amethyst. The darker the color purple, the higher the iron content. Gemstones are therefore truly natural products, which can be millions or even billions of years old.
When a gemstone consists of one mineral, we call it a crystal . For example, amethyst, rock crystal and rose quartz are crystals. If a gem consists of several minerals, we call it a rock . These have a coarser structure, for example lapis lazuli.
Although not scientifically proven, gemstones are known for their healing properties in terms of health and vitality . For example, the Greeks and Romans used marble and gemstones for making works of art, Indians and shamanic cultures wore gemstone jewelry to protect and/or heal themselves, and powder of certain gemstones was also used as medicine, make-up and color. for paint for wall paintings and works of art.
Nowadays, gemstones are often used to help you connect with yourself and nature, to relax your body and mind and to heal the heart, among other things.
Personally, I really like gemstones. It differs per period what kind of stones I like to have around me or carry with me, how I feel and what I need. Basically the same as you can also use essential oils.
For example, there are gemstones that help ground, allow you to come to yourself more, gemstones that support cleansing, find clarity in your head and body and gemstones that represent love and warmth, or can offer comfort.
If you also have gems, you probably chose them for a certain reason or you received them with a certain message.

Cleaning and charging
Cleaning and charging gems can be done in different ways:
WATER - One of the most common ways to clean your gemstones is with water. This can be done under the tap with running water or in the rain. Hold the gems in your hand or place them in a container/bowl. Let the water run on it for a few minutes and pat dry. Please note that your gemstone can withstand water. For example, you have to dry hematite well when in contact with water in connection with possible rusting, and there are salt crystals that dissolve as soon as they come into contact with water.
SMOKE - Use the smoke of burning dried herbs or sacred wood, such as sage and palo santo. Light the dried herbs and/or wood and blow out to create a smoke. Pass the crystal through the smoke to clean it.
SUNLIGHT / MOONLIGHT - Place your stones outside in the light of the new moon or full moon for feminine energy or in the sun for masculine energy. Please note that your gemstone can withstand sunlight.
EARTH - Especially for grounding gemstones it is a nice way to cleanse and recharge them through the earth. Make a hole in the ground and put your gem in it. Leave overnight and remove from the ground the next morning.
