Beeswax is the greasy substance that honey bees make to build their combs. This wax is transparent when it comes out of the bee, the bees add pollen and propolis to it, which gives it a yellow and sometimes even golden brown color.
With this white beeswax, the original yellow beeswax has been purified and bleached through a natural process with activated carbon. This makes the beeswax 'more suitable' for making products, such as lip balm. After all, it is easier to give a white beeswax a nice colour than yellow beeswax.
Beeswax has a purifying effect and supports the restorative capacity of the skin. Also, beeswax has a long shelf life and provides a little more firmness in your products, for example when you are making balms, creams and lotions.
To use beeswax in your product, you must first melt it. You do this in the au bain marie way with a melting pot. Using a melting pot, the beeswax does not get too hot and it gradually melts into a liquid mixture. Once the beeswax has melted, add the rest of your ingredients, depending on the recipe you want to make. As soon as the beeswax solidifies again, it hardens and you can no longer mix it.
